The Open Net Incident

With twelve seconds, full boost, and nobody in goal, Gabriel discovered a bold new place to shoot: the side wall.

There are moments that define a player. Championship goals. Impossible saves. Perfect zero-second passes. For Gabriel, it was an open net from four feet away.

The setup

The score was tied. The opposing team had double-committed into Gabriel’s corner. The ball rolled gently toward the center, practically filing the paperwork for its own goal. Gabriel had full boost and all the time in the world.

He hit the post so hard the replay camera seemed embarrassed.

The explanation

Gabriel cited controller drift, sunlight, “bad server energy,” and a teammate who was on the opposite side of the field. Independent review found the controller to be working perfectly.

Final assessment

The Fennec performed exactly as designed. The driver did not. Gabriel remains very poor at Rocket League, but his commitment to creative failure is unmatched.
